The prefectural capital is Akita.

Akita Prefecture is famous as a place of production of the rice of Japanese top class. Especially akitakomachi is popular.
The harvest of rice is the 3rd in Japan. And vegetables, a flower, an apple, beef, milk, etc. are famous.

71% of area is a forest. The quantity which produces wood is the 4th in Japan. They are processed and shipped to the lumber etc. which build a house. And mushroom cultivation of maitake mushrooms, shiitake mushroom, etc. is also performed using the tree.
